Week 8 Notes & Observations

Power 5

  • Oklahoma RB Kennedy Brooks has now carried the ball at least 20 times in three consecutive games.
  • Michigan RB Hassan Haskins has scored at least one rushing TD in six of seven games this year and has rushed for 2 TDs in four of the last five games.
  • Kansas State RB Deuce Vaughn has scored in all seven games this season and has totaled 100 yards from scrimmage in all but one game (@Oklahoma St—95 yards).
  • Texas Tech RB SaRodorick Thompson has scored at least 2 TDs in three of his last four games.
  • Wake Forest QB Sam Hartman has passed for at least 320 yards in three consecutive games and WR Jaquarii Roberson has topped the 100-yard receiving mark in three straight.  WR AT Perry has caught a TD pass in five consecutive games.
  • Syracuse QB Garrett Shrader has rushed for at least 135 yards in three of the last four games and has rushed for at least 2 TDs in four of the last six.
  • There is a lot of buzz about Wisconsin Fr. RB Braelon Allen, who ran for 140 yards and 2 TDs in the Badgers’ win at Purdue, but note that Chez Mellusi had 15 more rushing attempts than Allen and finished with 149 yards and a TD himself.
  • Purdue WR David Bell had his poorest performance of the season against Wisconsin with 6 catches for 33 yards.
  • Well, I’ve had a lot to say about Spencer Rattler and Emory Jones this season, so it’s time to focus on Clemson QB DJ Uiagalelei.  There’s one problem about voicing an opinion on DJU being replaced.  Who are they going to replace him with?  It was a lot easier to make a case for Anthony Richardson and Caleb Williams.
  • Pitt QB Kenny Pickett’s streak of six consecutive games with 3 or more TDs came to an end in the Panthers’ 27-17 win over Clemson.
  • Oklahoma State WR Brennan Presley is now fantasy relevant.  Presley has caught a TD pass in three of the Cowboys’ last four games.
  • Fantasy owners that went in on Minnesota RB Bryce Williams will probably be looking to make another move this week after the Gophers’ rotation in the backfield against Maryland.  RBs Ky Thomas (21-139-1), Mar’Keise Irving (15-105-1), Bryce Williams (13-48-1), and QB Cole Kramer (5-30-1) all contributed in the 34-16 win.
  • After scoring 7 TDs in UCLA’s first four games, RB Zach Charbonnet has failed to score in the Bruins’ last four games.
  • BYU RB Tyler Allgeier had his second 100-yard rushing game of the season in Saturday’s win at Washington State and has scored 2 or more TDs in three of the last five games.
  • Washington State RB Max Borghi has scored in three consecutive games and has totaled 6 TDs in that three-game stretch.
  • Mississippi State WR Makai Polk has caught a TD pass in four of the Bulldogs’ last five games.
  • Tennessee WRs Cedric Tillman and Velus Jones have caught a TD pass in three of the Vols’ last four games.
  • Alabama RB Brian Robinson has totaled over 130 yards from scrimmage in four straight games and has scored at least 2 TDs in three of the last four.
  • Virginia WR Dontayvion Wicks has caught at least one TD pass in six of his last seven games and is averaging 22.3 yards per reception.
  • NC State RBs Zonovan Knight and Ricky Person have combined for only 2 TDs (one each) in the last four games.
  • Ohio State RB TreVeyon Henderson has scored in all seven games this season and has scored 2 or more TDs in four of the last five games.  QB CJ Stroud has thrown at least 4 TD passes in three consecutive games.
  • Utah RB Tavion Thomas has rushed for 70 yards and a TD in three consecutive games.
  • Oregon State RB BJ Baylor ran for 152 yards and a TD in Saturday’s win over Utah and he now has topped the 140-yard mark four times in seven games.
  • Texas A&M TE Jalen Wydermyer has caught a TD pass in three of the Aggies’ last four games.
  • USC WR Drake London has caught at least 10 passes in five of seven games this season and is the top fantasy WR in P5-only formats (79-1,003-5).   For those of you that do not play in Full FBS formats, London is a distant second in fantasy production behind Western Kentucky’s Jerreth Sterns, who has totaled 83-1,077-10 in seven games.
  • Notre Dame Kyren Williams had his first 100-yard rushing game of the season in the Irish’s 31-16 win over USC.  Williams has scored at least one TD in six of seven games this season.

Group 5

  • Coastal Carolina RB Shermari Jones has now scored a TD in four of the five games in which he has played this year and seems to be the most threatening Chanticleers’ RB around the goal line.  After catching a TD pass in each of the first four games of the year, WR Jaivon Heiligh has not scored in three straight games.
  • Appalachian State RBs Nate Noel and Daetrich Harrington combined for 28 carries against Coastal Carolina, but it was the return of Camerun Peoples that made the biggest fantasy splash, as he carried the ball 7 times for 58 yards and 2 TDs in the win over CCU.
  • Louisiana RB Chris Smith had his first 100-yard rushing game of the year against Arkansas State, and he has now scored a TD in five of seven games.
  • After totaling 7 catches for 41 yards in the three games prior to Week 8, SMU TE Grant Calcaterra hauled in 7 passes for 90 yards in the 55-26 win over Tulane.  RB Tre Siggers has now scored a rushing TD in three straight games.  RB Ulysses Bentley didn’t play much following a bye week, so I wouldn’t advise starting him until we know he’s healthy, which means seeing him play a significant amount of snaps in an upcoming game. The bigger dilemma for most fantasy owners is redraft leagues is trying to decide whether or not to hold him or drop him.  The way Siggers is playing, Bentley is a ‘drop’ for me.
  • UNLV RB Charles Williams has rushed for at least 90 yards and a TD in three of his last four games.  WR Steve Jenkins has caught a TD pass in three of his last four games.
  • San Jose State TE Derrick Deese has topped the 100-yard receiving mark in three of the last four games.
  • Middle Tennessee WR Jarrin Pierce has caught a TD pass in five straight games, while teammate Jimmy Williams has caught a TD pass in four of his last five games.  QB Chase Cunningham has thrown at least 2 TD passes in five consecutive games.
  • It’s tough to pass judgement on Memphis players after Friday’s 24-7 loss at UCF because starting QB Seth Henigan did not play.  After a bye week, the Tigers host SMU in Week 10.
  • Eastern Michigan WR Dylan Drummond has caught a TD pass in four of his last five games.
  • I assume RB Isaiah Bowser is back to 100%, or at least close to it, after carrying the ball 26 times for 111 yards in the Knights’ 24-7 win over Memphis.
  • In his return from injury, Colorado State RB David Bailey has scored 2 rushing TDs in back-to-back games.
  • Northern Illinois RB Jay Ducker has carried the ball at least 30 times for 180 yards in each of the last two games.  Harrison Waylee and Antario Brown still have not returned to action.  This is a tough situation to figure out moving forward, especially if either Waylee or Brown return next week.
  • Central Michigan RB Lew Nichols has now topped the 130-yard rushing mark in five of eight games this year.  WR Kalil Pimpleton has topped the 100-yard receiving mark in three of the last five games.
  • After starting the season 4-0, Wyoming has lost three straight to start MWC play, averaging 5.7 points per game in those three contests.
  • Kent State WR Dante Cephas has caught a TD pass in three consecutive games and has topped the 100-yard receiving mark in three of the last five.
  • Well, with the switch back to Kurtis Rourke in Ohio’s loss to Kent State, owners of QB Armani Rogers might have to ship him out.  QB rotations aren’t worth the headache.  RB De’Montre Tuggle has scored a rushing TD in four straight games.
  • While Buffalo RB Kevin Marks has been sidelined with an injury over the past two games, Dylan McDuffie has posted consecutive 100-yard rushing games.  McDuffie has now scored a rushing TD in three consecutive games and in six of eight games this season.
  • Miami (OH) WR Jack Sorenson had a season-high 138 receiving yards in the Red Hawks’ 24-17 win at Ball State, and now has three consecutive 100-yard receiving games.
  • Houston RB Alton McCaskill has now scored a rushing TD in five of the last six games.
  • Liberty WR DJ Daniels has caught a TD pass in five of the Flames’ last six games.  QB Malik Willis left Saturday’s game against North Texas with a foot injury, but later returned and finished the game.  He threw 3 TD passes, but finished with minus-8 rushing yards.  Going into the weekend, Willis had at least 80 rushing yards in three consecutive games.
  • North Texas RB DeAndre Torrey has carried the ball at least 20 times in six of seven games this season.
  • San Diego State RB Greg Bell did not play in the second half against Air Force.  After the game, HC Brady Hoke mentioned that Bell has missed some practice time and isn’t fully healthy, which isn’t good news, at least in the short term.
  • Fresno State WR Jalen Cropper’s seven-game scoring streak came to an end Saturday night against Nevada.
  • South Alabama WR Jalen Tolbert has caught a TD pass in three straight games and has hauled in at least 10 receptions in the Jaguars’ last two games.
  • Put UL Monroe QB Chandler Rogers on your radar.  Rogers has thrown at least 2 TDs in three consecutive games and has rushed for at least 40 yards in four consecutive games.
  • South Florida RB Jaren Mangham has scored in six consecutive games and has five multiple-TD games this season.
  • FIU RB D’vonte Price has not topped the 100-yard mark in five straight games, but he has scored in four of the last five games.
